During our recent EPCOT trips, we saw crew members working on the outdoor track of Test Track, which is undergoing a major reimagining.
Test Track Construction
In our last Test Track construction update, we noted a lot of materials were staged in front of the attraction’s building. That remains the case but many sheets of plywood have been used to construct a box next to what remains of the attraction’s sign.
The box is about as tall as the old sign, not including the pole that held up a decorative piece. It’s Significantly wider, however.
Planks of wood cross the top of the box but it’s mostly open.
During an early trip this week, we also saw crew members working on a metal structure. But this was gone a few days later.
Several weeks ago, parts of the sidewalk in front of the Test Track entrance were torn up. Crews continue to work on the sidewalk, with construction vehicles on site to move dirt around.
We saw crew members inside the building. But interior construction is mostly a mystery.
We could see something wrapped in a tarp just inside one entrance door. Most signage has been removed from the building, with faded paint visible where the letters used to be. Concept art indicates a new overhang will be constructed above the entrance.
Scaffolding is set up around the Test Track Simporium entrance, with plywood set against the track. We saw one crew member working behind a wall of plywood on the upper level of scaffolding.
The ride’s track layout is expected to remain the same. Most of the ride is indoors, but it does circle the outside of the building.
We saw more crew members working on the track between the entrance and the Simporium. The crew may be preparing for new themed elements to be installed.
Test Track 3.0 will draw inspiration from World of Motion, which Test Track replaced. The original Test Track ran from 1990 to 2012. Test Track 2.0, which you can watch our video of below, ran from 2012 to June of this year.
