Disney’s Hollywood Studios was set to open “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” this fall, but the new show’s debut has been postponed until 2025.
‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’
“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” was set to debut sometime this fall, but Disney has announced that the show’s opening will be delayed to Summer 2025. It was only this past summer that Disney was sharing behind-the-scenes peeks of the revamped musical. Disney announced that there would be numerous new puppets and motion-capture characters.
According to Scott Gustin on X, work will begin on the theater’s exterior in the coming weeks. This will include the show’s washed-out marquee. Currently, the scrim background is being held up with zip ties. The billboard on the building’s facade and the marquee are bleached and frayed from years in the Florida sunshine.
Stay tuned to our website for updates as work begins on the marquee.
For now, the old marquee remains in place, as does the bleached billboard, and these construction walls. We originally spotted these walls over the summer. The walls in the Animation Courtyard have remained unchanged since their installation. They line up with the exit doors of “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” These walls will likely remain in place until the show is ready to open to guests.
Disney was hiring character performers and puppeteers for the show earlier this year. The auditions were advertised with new concept art on the Official Disney Auditions Instagram account, with the art featuring puppet designs for Sebastian, Flounder, and Max, Prince Eric’s dog. Disney previously auditioned performers to portray Princess Ariel and Prince Eric.
“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” will open in the refreshed Animation Courtyard theater in Summer 2025. “Voyage of The Little Mermaid” never reopened following the COVID-19 closures in 2020. Watch our video of the old show below.
