Permits filed on November 27, 2024, hint at new projection effects coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The permits may signify projection mapping coming to Fire of the Rising Moons or another use.
Four permits were filed in regards to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge:
- DLR – Smugglers Run/BLDG #1003 – Tenant Improvement: New projectors on new high curb. With electrical and mechanical.
- DLR – Souk Market/BLDG #1001 – Tenant Improvement: New projectors on new high curb. New passive railing on upper roof. Install maintenance access stair from lower roof to upper roof. With electrical and mechanical.
- DLR – Oga’s Cantina/BLDG #10060 – Tenant Improvement: New projectors on new high curb. With electrical.
- DLR – Village Shops/BLDG #1002 – Tenant Improvement: New projectors on new high curb. Install vertical ladder. Construct steel platform with ladder to support light fixtures. With electrical and mechanical.
All four locations call for new projectors on new high curbs. Some require the addition of platforms, railings, and ladders.
Projection effects could be used for any number of purposes at Black Spire Outpost, and a common use of projectors at Disneyland is to create the mapping effects on Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street, U.S.A., during fireworks spectaculars. It’s possible that the new installations could be used to enhance Fire of the Rising Moons, a show in Galaxy’s Edge that uses the already-existing fireworks show and sets it to “Star Wars” music when viewed from Batuu. The main viewing area is Docking Bay 5 where the Millennium Falcon is parked.
