Disney used AI art from Redbubble as a prop in the new Haunted Mansion gift shop at Disneyland, Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond.

Somewhere Beyond Human Intelligence: AI Art Used in New Haunted Mansion Gift Shop

A wooden shelf holds a vintage string instrument and a framed painting of a ghostly figure in a white dress. Echoes of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion linger as the walls and ceiling, painted in purple and brown tones, invite you to Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond.

X user HappyHaunt13 first pointed out the “AI print from Redbubble.” In the store, the print is in a gold frame with a red matte on a shelf. The artwork is easily traced to Redbubble, where it’s sold as “The Ghostly Bride” by user yourfavdraw.

A figure in a flowing white gown stands in a dimly lit, ornate room, surrounded by mist, with staircases on either side.

The artwork does appear to be generated by artificial intelligence. The most obvious detail indicating it wasn’t created by a human is the odd staircase — or staircases? The stairs appear split in two with weirdly placed railings. The candelabras on the walls and tiles on the ceiling are not uniform. At first glance, a strange shape on the stairs to the left could be a cat, but it’s unidentifiable upon closer inspection.

Earlier this year, rumors indicated Disney was planning changes to the Haunted Mansion’s attic scene featuring Constance Hatchaway, who is just the latest in a series of ghostly bride characters that have haunted the attraction. Fans have speculated a more prominently displayed bride portrait in the store is the new bride’s design but the use of Redbubble AI art casts doubt on this rumor and the integrity of the store in general.

A rustic shelf in a haunted mansion displays a draped cloth, books, a lit candle, a statue reminiscent of Madame Leota, and flowers. An open wooden box serves as a backdrop while wood beams are visible above.

HappyHaunts13 was responding to a post by user ogorangebird pointing out that another prop in the store, a marble bust, appears to be available on Amazon. This veiled lady design is frequently used and copied — a famous real marble veiled lady was sculpted circa 1860 by Raffaelo Monti — so Disney could have purchased this from Amazon or another source.

The new gift shop has received a lot of attention from the Disney fan community in recent weeks, with a number of criticisms, from it’s style to it’s placement within the park to the art within.
