President-elect Donald Trump praised former Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter for leaving Disney, although Perlmutter was laid off and did not willingly leave the company.
Trump Praises Ike Perlmutter for Leaving Disney
At a Mar-a-Lago event on Monday, Trump said Perlmutter “went from stone-cold broke to owning Disney. Then he got out of Disney because they went woke. He didn’t want woke Donald Duck, right?” (via Variety)
Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter never owned Disney or had anything to do with Donald Duck. He joined the Marvel Comics board of directors in 1993. He became CEO in 2005 and remained in the position through Disney’s purchase of Marvel in 2009. He became chairman in 2017. He infamously almost fired Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, but Disney CEO Bob Iger stopped him. Disney laid off Perlmutter in 2023 when Marvel Entertainment was absorbed into other divisions. Perlmutter sold all of his Disney stake this summer.
Trump will be inaugurated as president on January 20. The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom will close to move Trump’s animatronic back to the center of the stage.
