The Q&A was first announced via an Instagram story post from Universal Creative.

The story post reads “Mike West returns to Skull Island…” with an active countdown for a “Queue&A – Skull Island: Reign of Kong.” The Queue & A will take place on Friday, January 17, at 10:00 a.m.

Mike West, a former Disney Imagineer and previous Universal Creative, helped to bring the Skull Island attraction to life.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong opened in 2016 at Universal Orlando Resort. The ride is a 6-minute-long trackless attraction that combines practical effects with a 3D screen.

According to a 2016 article from HuffPost, the Universal Creative team worked with Peter Jackson, director of the 2005 “King Kong” film, on the original concept development, but the ride has no connection to the 2017 film.

West stated, “Kong has been such a big part of our overall culture for generations. And he’s been a part of the Universal family in the past. We thought it was a great time to bring him back, and we wanted to make a next generation of storytelling.”
