The bioluminescent walkways in Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are receiving a fresh new coat of paint.
Repainting Pandora’s Bioluminescent Walkways
Several walkways around the land are receiving a new coat of UV-reactant paint. Due to the intense Florida sun and constant tread from guests, the paint fades quite quickly. The walkways were just refreshed a year ago in February.
Different areas throughout the land are sectioned off so the paint can be applied and given ample time to dry.
In the photo above, you can see the paint being applied to the cracks and crevices in the pavement. Although the paint is noticeable during the day, the pathways really come to life at night. The paint glows in the dark, giving the appearance of bioluminescence like what can be seen while riding Na’vi River Journey.
Despite the paint refresh, Disney’s Animal Kingdom typically closes at 6 p.m. which does not allow guests to experience the full effect of the glowing walkways. However, on January 31, the park will stay open until 7 p.m., and on February 1 and 2, the park will be open until 8 p.m. Hopefully, this will allow guests time to enjoy the walkways after the sun has set.
