Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk to Remain Closed

The announcement was made around midnight this morning, Thursday, January 9, on social media:

Out of an abundance of caution, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed on Thursday, January 9 as a result of the extreme winds and fire conditions. As always the safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority. We continue to assess the situation and are directing guests to visit our website for updates.

This follows the park’s temporary closure yesterday, Wednesday, January 8.

Per KTLA News, an estimated 1,000 structures, many of which were homes, have been destroyed by the Santa Ana-wind-fueled wildfire, which was first reported around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. By Wednesday evening, the fire had spread to 17,234 acres with no containment. Firefighters have also gained the upper hand on a fast-moving wildfire in the Hollywood Hills, which prompted a mandatory evacuation order for much of the Hollywood entertainment district. That fire was reported just after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

At this time, Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk both have operating hours listed for Friday, January 10, but it is entirely possible that both could stay closed due to the winds, ongoing fires, or poor air quality.
