Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is officially closed for its extended refurbishment and new narration about it has debuted on the Walt Disney World Railroad.

As guests depart the Frontierland station, the narrator announces the upcoming stops and urges guests to remain seated with the usual safety spiel.

As the train approaches Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the narrator then says:

There it is, Big Thunder Mountain. Now normally, folks down here have a one-track mind for gold. But mining seems to have been derailed. They’ve been working on that railroad all the live long day. Bet they’ll be full steam ahead in no time complete with some new bells and whistles.

The “new bells and whistles” line calls back to the “little bit of new magic” that Disney promised once the ride reopens.

A rustic wooden cabin on wheels sits among red rock formations, with wooden fences in the foreground and scaffolding around it.

Work on the ride is already underway as scaffolding has been erected on various parts of the ride.

Yellow caution tape can be seen to the far right with red tape placed higher up on the mountain.

On January 8, crew members were seen already dismantling the coaster’s track.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for its long refurbishment on January 6 and, according to the official Walt Disney World website, is not set to reopen until sometime in 2026.
