Crews have replaced some of the plain beige scrims on the facade of The Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom with themed scrim.
The Plaza Restaurant Scrims
Construction walls and scrims went up around the Main Street restaurant in early February. Beige scrims are still around the back half of the building facing Tomorrowland and backstage areas. The new scrims facing Cinderella Castle resemble the building’s facade, with printed windows, awnings, and rooftops.
The scrims cover scaffolding, acting as both a barrier to guest view and cover for crew members. The Plaza Restaurant remains open during the exterior refurbishment. There are no walls around the main entrance of the restaurant and there is a gap in the walls for the back entrance.
The themed scrim includes details like window decorations advertising FPC Academy Featuring The Culinary Arts. Larry Slocum is listed as the headmaster of the academy. Slocum worked at Disneyland and then transferred to Walt Disney World for the resort’s 1971 opening. He retired in 1998, at which point his name was added to the Main Street, U.S.A. window. Slocum passed away in January 2024.
The exterior of The Plaza Restaurant was refurbished last year. This month’s work may be part of the same project. Disney may have paused work to keep the area clear during the busy fall and winter at Magic Kingdom.
