A documentary about a legendary Disney Imagineer is debuting in April, and the first trailer is available now to watch for “Bob Gurr: Living by Design.”
Gurr is best known for his work with Disney, where he worked on many popular theme park attractions, including The Haunted Mansion, the Monorail, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and more. He started his career under WED Enterprises, designing the Autopia cars.
Bob Gurr worked with Walt Disney Imagineering for four decades, ultimately retiring in 1981. He didn’t stop working, however, venturing out to start GurrDesign, Inc. and then Sequoia Creative, Inc. It was during that era that he helped design the King Kong animatronic for Universal Studios Hollywood as well as consulting on the animatronic T. rex used in 1993’s original “Jurassic Park.” For a deep dive into Gurr’s illustrious career, read our 2013 biography.
In 1999, Gurr won the THEA Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2004, he was inducted as an official Disney Legend.
The new documentary is from Just For Fun Productions and the Alex Theatre, which will host the red carpet premiere in Glendale, CA on April 26, 2025. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes, including a 10-minute intermission and a Q&A session. The film’s actual runtime is 1 hour and 48 minutes.
