Main Cast for Reimagined ‘Holes’ Disney+ Series Revealed, Most Campers Now Female

Disney has revealed several of the main cast members for the upcoming “Holes” series coming to Disney+, which includes a twist on the original novel characters.

‘Holes’ Disney+ Cast Announcement

As we previously reported, Disney has ordered a new series for Disney+ that will reimagine the 1998 Louis Sachar novel “Holes.” The book was previously adapted by Disney as a 2003 film starring Shia LaBeouf, Khleo Thomas, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson, Patricia Arquette, Dulé Hill, and Eartha Kitt.

A new article by Deadline has revealed the names of several main cast members now set to appear in the series. The cast for the reimagined “Holes” will include Greg Kinnear (“As Good As It Gets”) as The Warden, Aidy Bryant (“SNL”) as Sissy, and Shay Rudolph (“The Baby-Sitters Club”) as Hayley. Other cast members include Flor Delis Alicea, Anire Kim Amoda, Noah Cottrell, Iesha Daniels, Sophie Dieterlen, Alexandra Doke, and Maeve Press.

The show’s official tagline states, “In this reimagining of the beloved 1998 book from Louis Sachar, a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.”

The article confirms the new series will change the gender of the main character, previously Stanley, who will now be named Hayley. However, it now appears the majority of the camp will also include female campers instead of the predominantly-male cast seen in the original novel. Most of the original novel characters have now been replaced with new characters with nicknames such as Eyeball, Sticky, Mars, and Thumbelina — all of whom are described by Deadline as female.

Alicea plays Queenie, the tough queen bee, a seemingly fearless leader whose hard edges cover up her vulnerability.

Amoda plays Thumbelina, who is bold and not scared of anything or anyone, not even The Warden.

Daniels plays Mars, a brainy, charismatic, no-nonsense, and a bit of a player among the queer female campers.

Dieterlen plays Sticky, an ever-daydreaming girly-girl with a kind heart and an abiding passion for clothes, but she can be serious and driven when needed.

Doke plays Eyeball, a mischievous, zany artist who sees the world in her own idiosyncratic way and often lightens a heavy mood with a joke.

Press plays Shrimp, the youngest and smallest of the campers, and her unusual, blunt nature makes her an outcast amongst the girls.

“Holes” is written by Alina Mankin, and the pilot episode will be produced by Walden Media, which previously produced the 2003 “Holes” film. Liz Phang is the showrunner and executive producer. Disney has not yet set a release date for the new series to be streamed on Disney+.
