Disney Donates One Red Car Trolley Vehicle from Disney California Adventure

One of the only two Red Car Trolley vehicles from the now-closed attraction at Disney California Adventure has found a new home in California after being donated by Disney.

Red Car Trolley Vehicle Finds New Home

A red and orange vintage streetcar, known as the Red Car Trolley, labeled "Pacific Electric," is parked on the tracks. People stroll nearby under a clear blue sky, glancing through its windows that capture reflections of passing clouds.

The Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure took its last trip down Buena Vista Street on February 8, 2025. The attraction permanently closed because the planned expansion of Avengers Campus involves taking over the area housing the barn where the trolleys were stored. Following the final day of operation, vehicle 717 was placed near the entrance to Disney California Adventure as a stationery photo-op for guests. Vehicle 717 is one of only two Red Car Trolley vehicles in operation when the attraction closed.

The only other Red Car Trolley, vehicle 623, has found a new home at The Garner Holt Foundation, according to a new Facebook post. The Garner Holt Foundation is named for American entrepreneur Garner Holt, who is known for making significant contributions to the study of animatronics, especially in the world of entertainment. He established Garner Holt Productions, Inc. in 1977, and the company has since become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of animatronics and other special effects systems. According to the foundation’s website, “Garner Holt Productions, Inc. has produced more animatronic figures for theme parks than any other company on the planet.”

The Garner Holt Foundation has collaborated with Disney several times. The Jack Skellington animatronic created for Haunted Mansion Holiday for Disneyland Park in 2001 was the first time Disney outsourced an animatronic for a classic attraction to a third-party company. Other collaborations between Garner Holt Productions and Disney include the Maleficent dragon for Disneyland Resort’s Fantasmic! in 2009 and multiple animatronics for Radiator Springs Racers in 2012.

According to the post’s caption, the second of the two Red Car Trolley vehicles has been donated by Disney to The Garner Holt Foundation:

Straight from the tracks of Buena Vista Street and into the future of inspiring innovation—the iconic Red Car Trolley has found a new home at the Garner Holt Foundation!  Thanks to this generous donation from our friends at the Disneyland Resort, this piece of theme park history can continue to inspire the next generation of dreamers and doers to discover potential careers in STEM and STEAM.
