REVIEW: Three Broomsticks at Universal Studios Hollywood Offering Special 3-Course Meal for Universal Fan Fest Nights

Shannen Ace

During Universal Fan Fest Nights, guests can enjoy a special three-course meal from the Three Broomsticks in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Digital menu board displays four different Cornish pasty options as starters for a three-course meal in a dimly lit restaurant.

A reservation is required for Three Broomsticks during Universal Fan Fest Nights. The meal includes one starter, one main course, one dessert, and one drink for $39 per person. The starter options are Cornish pasties inspired by the Hogwarts Houses:

  • Gryffindor Cornish Pasty: potato and pea Cornish pasty with red pepper chutney
  • Ravenclaw Cornish Pasty: potato and pea Cornish pasty with blueberry chutney
  • Hufflepuff Cornish Pasty: potato and pea Cornish pasty with mango chutney
  • Slytherin Cornish Pasty: potato and pea Cornish pasty with cilantro and mint chutney
Illuminated restaurant menu board displaying main courses: Sunday Roast, Toad in the Hole, Fish and Chips, and Curry Chicken.

The main course options are:

  • Sunday Roast: herb-crusted roast beef served with roasted vegetables, potato puree, beef demi, and Yorkshire pudding
  • Toad in the Hole: vegan Yorkshire pudding with plant-based sausage served with roasted vegetables, potato puree, and onion gravy
  • Fish and Chips: fresh beer battered cod served with chips, mushy peas, and grilled lemon
  • Curry Chicken: served with steamed rice, charred red onion, and yogurt drizzle

There are just two dessert options:

  • The Golden Snitch: vanilla sponge cake, chocolate mousse, and orange marmalade topped with honey tuille wings.
  • The House Cup Trifle: pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, and blueberries layered with a vanilla orange sponge cake and vanilla bean pastry cream

All the starters are vegan and there is one vegan entree — however, there is no vegan dessert, which is odd.

The meal’s drink options do not include Butterbeer, although you can add that on.

Three Broomsticks Meal – $39

Two star-shaped pastries with sauces, an iced drink, and a green drink in a Harry Potter cup on a black tray.

We got unsweetened ice tea and the Fishy Green Ale. For starters, we chose the Gryffindor and Slytherin pasties.

Fishy Green Ale

A plastic cup with green foam topped butterbeer from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on a tray.

Fishy Green Ale is a non-alcoholic boba drink. It has a nice hint of mint and blueberry-flavored “fish eggs” (boba balls). It usually sells for $8.

Gryffindor Cornish Pasty

Potato and pea Cornish pasty with red pepper chutney

The pasties are shaped like the Hogwarts crest. They’re crunchy and buttery. Universal knows how to do puff pastries. They come with a good amount of chutney. We liked the red pepper chutney with the Gryffindor pasty, although we preferred Slytherin’s cilantro and mint chutney.

Slytherin Cornish Pasty

Potato and pea Cornish pasty with cilantro and mint chutney

A star-shaped pastry with a block design, served with green sauce and microgreens on a gray plate.

The cilantro and mint chutney is bright and citrusy. It’s heavy on the cilantro with a sharp flavor, which we like.

Toad in the Hole

Vegan Yorkshire pudding with plant-based sausage served with roasted vegetables, potato puree, and onion gravy

Roast chicken with gravy, mashed potatoes, and roasted Brussels sprouts with red peppers on a gray plate.

This vegan Yorkshire pudding is delicious, especially for a quick-service restaurant. The pastry is crisp and the plant-based “sausage” is perfectly cooked. The onion gravy is smoky. The roasted veggies include Brussels sprouts and pepper.

The instant mashed potatoes bring the dish down. They have a thick skin to them and are super dry. Because they’re vegan, there’s no butter to help moisten them.

Fish and Chips

Fresh beer battered cod served with chips, mushy peas, and grilled lemon

A plate with battered fish, fries, a lemon slice, mushy peas, and a cup of tartar sauce.

The Fish and Chips is a staple dish of The Three Broomsticks. The fish is always on point — flaky, buttery, and not fishy. It’s beautifully fried with a crispy exterior. The steak fries are actual magic. And the mushy peas are straightforward but good.

The Golden Snitch

Vanilla sponge cake, chocolate mousse, and orange marmalade topped with honey tuille wings

A dessert shaped like the Golden Snitch with wings, served on a gray plate with white cream dollops.

The white stuff on the plate is light and fresh whipped cream, maybe even house made. The actual cake is not only beautiful and photogenic, but also delicious. We were worried the orange marmalade would kill it, but it doesn’t even taste like marmalade. There’s just a hint of orange flavor, reminding us of chocolate-covered oranges.

Inside is a light and rich chocolate mousse up against a wonderful moist cake. The tuille wings are light and crisp with a sweet honey flavor. This is perfect.

The House Cup Trifle

Pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, and blueberries layered with a vanilla orange sponge cake and vanilla bean pastry cream

Layered dessert in a glass mug with fruit, cream, and a cookie topper, set on a dark tray with a drink in the background.

Last but not least is the House Cup Trifle, which also has a cute presentation with the Hogwarts crest on top. That said, the crest was so bitter. We don’t know what it was. If it was chocolate, it was horrendous.

Fortunately, the crest is just a decoration. The proper dessert is another winner. The cake is moist and sweet. The pineapple is perfect. The other fruits are also fresh and bursting with flavor. They go well with the sweetness of the cake.

A decorative cookie with a lion emblem sits atop swirls of whipped cream in a dessert.

The whipped cream is different than that of The Golden Snitch and not as good, but still fine. It is a shame this isn’t vegan.

Overall

This offering is supposed to be exclusively available via reservations but on the first night, reservations never opened in the app. Thankfully, we were able to walk up and were seated within 10 minutes.

From ordering to finishing our food, we were there for about an hour. The event is pretty long — 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. — so there’s time for that hour. And after three courses, you won’t need to stop for food again unless you really want to try another special treat.

There’s so much standing in line and walking around Universal Studios Hollywood, including from the Upper Lot to the Lower Lot, it’s nice to have an hour to sit in a climate-controlled environment and enjoy good food. We highly recommend this experience.
