Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities
About
Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities is inspired by the character Dr. Septimus Pretorius, the antagonist of “Bride of Frankenstein” (1935). Like Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Pretorius created monsters. His, however, were tiny homunculi, which he kept in jars. Dr. Pretorius may be gone, but his homunculi remain in his home.

Descendants of the late Dr. Pretorius have turned his Darkmoor Village home into Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities, a wondrous emporium where his collection of macabre items is on display (and for sale). Once you’ve collected your fill, venture next door to Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience to be transformed into your Favorite Universal monster.
Exterior
Interior
The shop features built-in wood shelves. Displays in the center are made of vintage-style furniture pieces like an old trunk and a round table.
A dirty full-length mirror hangs between racks of clothes.

There are some small coffins displaying mannequins wearing the apparel available for purchase.
The tops of the shelves and rafters are covered in props. There is scientific equipment like bottles and test tubes. Skulls sit on piles of books. There’s an old medical bag.

There appears to be a vintage gramophone, a mortar and pestle, and an anatomical model.
A red glowing jar has a heart inside.
There are various lamps, including these complex chandeliers with hanging electrical wires.
Pretorius’ portrait hangs above a shelf displaying candles and dead flowers. Large torches are on the stone columns to the sides.
A coffin sits on a table below Pretorius’ portraits. Maybe it contains his remains?
The team members working in Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities wear white lab coats. The cash wrap is black with a white marble counter. A damask patterned wallpaper is between the shelves behind the check-out.
A doorway with a rope across it looks into the Monster Makeup Experience.
Next to the doorway is a mummy’s sarcophagus.
Most of the homunculi are on this shelf between merch displays. Lights shine on them in their glass jars.

The homunculi have been reimagined from their more human-looking appearances in the original film into blobby creatures. One is a baby playing with blocks. Another has several tentacle-like arms.
A pair of homunculi are covered in white fur and have ice cubes in their jar.
Two jars are empty with notes. One reads, “Specimen grows larger outside of containments!” The other, more ominous, states, “Specimen escaped – on the loose, look around!”
Another homunculi is covered in black fur — almost like a niffler from the “Harry Potter” series. But with sharper claws and teeth. The last one resembles an oversized green bug with a crab-like claw and wings.
We think we found the escaped homunculi — it’s on a rafter above the checkout counter.
This creature is green with long pointed fingers. Metal pieces stick out of its head. Its mouth is open in a deranged laugh.
