Following the dismantling of the Grand Floridian lobby birdcage, the place where the iconic piece once stood is now a covered hole in the middle of the construction walls.

Construction walls were first added to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in April of 2025, shortly after the announcement that the iconic lobby birdcage would be dismantled to make way for a new lobby bar.

In our last construction update, the birdcage had been completely removed from its old pedestal. Now, even the pedestal is completely gone, leaving only a hole in the floor where it once stood.

While white plastic is being used to cover over the space, it is clear from the level of the floor that there is now a rectangular hole in the ground where the pedestal base used to sit. The hole is lined with yellow caution tape, likely to keep construction crew members from stepping in the hole accidentally.

Some sheets of plywood are staged in the area around the new hole, so it is possible that the next work to take place will be evening out the floor so the construction on the new bar can begin.

Turning to the side of the lobby, the Garden View Tea Room directly opposite the main doors is still wrapped in construction walls. The tea room never reopened after the 2020 closures.

The concept art for the updated Grand Floridian lobby shows a white wall decorated with new stained glass windows blocking off the tea room from the rest of the lobby on this side, so we may see construction for that wall starting soon.

In the meantime, the existing cutout wall is covered by partially-transparent white scrims. The furniture in this space was already removed, and there now appears to be some construction tools staged in the area.

Looking at the lobby from the opposite side, pink construction walls still line both sides of the lobby’s outer edge closest to the main doors.

We have already seen the wallpaper from behind the check-in desks being torn off the walls. While the desks are unavailable, the resort check-in has moved to the middle of the lobby seating area.

While most of the construction work is taking place inside, there is also some work being done on the walkways around the sides of the lobby. This path is located on the left of the main entrance, close to the lobby restrooms and the old entrance for 1900 Park Fare.

Crew members were in the process of cleaning the bricks in this section and repairing anything that appeared damaged. The walkway was then being lined with protective plastic, so it is possible this outdoor spot will be used for staging or additional work in the future. The plastic will ensure the bricks and nearby concrete ledges aren’t damaged.

The work on the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is set to continue through at least November 2025, though the dates may shift as construction continues. Disney has already confirmed that the resort’s annual Christmas gingerbread house will not be built this year due to the ongoing renovation project.
