Newly installed signage and overhead audio at Stardust Racers in Epic Universe now warn guests that their shoes must be worn at all times when riding the roller coaster (even if they’re loose sandals).
Guests Must Continually Wear Shoes on Stardust Racers

The announcement was played on the overhead speakers frequently on Monday, May 26 while we were visiting the newest theme park at Universal Orlando Resort. Signs informing guests of this change were not installed until Wednesday, May 28.
The new signage installed in the queue reads,
Please keep shoes and sandals on at all times while on the ride. Removing shoes may cause an interruption to the ride.
According to our reporters in the park, the overhead announcement informing guests to keep their shoes on is played every five minutes while in the queue for Stardust Racers.
This rule also includes loose sandals, which some theme parks ask that guests remove to ride roller coasters so that they do not fly off while onboard. Guests will have to wear their shoes while riding the dual-launch coaster, regardless of the kind of shoe being worn.

Reportedly, guests were taking off their sandals and other similar footwear and walking up the queue stairs barefoot. Shoes are technically considered loose items if they are not worn. Guests are required to stow all loose items in a locker before boarding, or, in the case of shoes, wear them at all times.
Stardust Racers, originally announced as Starfall Racers, is a dual-launch roller coaster that features two 5,000-foot tracks dubbed Pulsar and Photon. It stands 133 feet tall at the inverted crisscross, known as the “Celestial Spin,” and hits a top speed of 62 miles per hour. Riders are meant to be harnessing comets and riding them through the cosmos.
