Guide to Using New Disneyland Resort Entrance Gates with Photo Validation

Shannen Ace

Disneyland Resort released a guide on using the new entry gates at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. The first round of gates opened late last year but were not yet fully operational. Disney continued to install the new gates over the next several months, and they’re finally ready to open.

In short, the new gates introduce photo validation cameras to the entry process. This system is similar to the entry system Universal Orlando Resort introduced in 2023. Disneyland Resort guests will scan their tickets and take their photos to enter the park (as long as they have a theme park reservation and a valid ticket).

Here is the step-by-step breakdown from Disney.

  • Step 1: To enter each park, you will scan each ticket using screens present at individual entry gates.
  • Step 2: Once each ticket is scanned, every guest in your group will then use the screen to take their own picture by pressing the camera icon on the screen to capture your photo. And don’t worry about the kids: each entry gate is equipped with camera technology that will automatically adjust to each guest’s height while you are snapping the photo.
  • Step 3: Once your ticket is scanned and the photo is digitally attached to your ticket, the entry gates will automatically swing open for your party to head into the park together.

The gates have an access point to tap MagicBand+ and are still compatible with digital tickets in the Disneyland app.

If you have a multi-day ticket or a Magic Key pass, you will only have to take your picture linked to your ticket once.

There will still be Cast Members nearby to help guests navigate the new entry process.

There are more gates than before, and all the gates are ADA compliant, so guests using ECVs, wheelchairs, and strollers can enter them.

The screens will display animations of Mickey Mouse at Disneyland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit at Disney California Adventure, welcoming guests and bidding them farewell.
