The flamboyance of flamingos at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has grown a little larger with some newborn chicks.
Flamingo Chicks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Dr. Mark Penning — VP of Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment — posted about the chicks on Instagram. “We have some fun flamingo news from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!” Penning wrote. “Our flamboyance of greater flamingos have some new chicks! Resort guests can now see these new additions out in their habitat near the Jambo House pool.”

The flamingo chicks have fluffy gray feathers but will eventually develop the species’ classic pink coloring. Flamingos are about the size of a tennis ball when hatched. Greater flamingos grow up to 4.7 feet tall and 9 pounds. (via PBS)
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests can also view lesser flamingos, which stand up to 2.9 feet tall and weigh up to just 4.4 pounds. Flamingos have a habitat near the Tree of Life and can also be spotted on Kilimanjaro Safaris. WDWNT’s reporter Bryce recently caught a lesser flamingo snoozing.
A gingerbread flamingo joined the gingerbread giraffe and zebra at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this last holiday season.
