A new skit shared by Saturday Night Live (SNL) titled “The Deathly Diner” parodies the new vampire-themed restaurant Das Stakehaus in Epic Universe.

‘The Deathly Diner’
The skit begins with a family of four arriving at the entrance to the restaurant. While the skit does not explicitly name Epic Universe, the parents (Walton Goggins and Ashley Padilla) mention, “this part of the park is horror themed.” The family interacts with a host (Bowen Yang) who is loosely dressed in black as a vampire. The host throws out some repeated horror-themed catchphrases, such as “Be careful, it might be your last!”
After hearing the same repeated phrases several times, the parents have a conversation about the staff at the horror-themed restaurant,
Honey, does the staff seem sort of bad at this?
Sort of. I feel like there should be more of a story.
But the theme park did just open this week, so maybe they’re still ironing it out.
When one of the servers (Ego Nwodim) returns, the family asks if there is more to the story of the restaurant than a general theme of “dying.” The two servers appear to make up a story on the spot, with general references to a vampire in the attic and a witch in the basement.
As the skit continues, the family orders entrees, including Bloody Steak, which is notably similar to the stake-based menu items at Das Stakehaus.
The overall ambience of The Deathly Diner is also remarkably similar to the interior of Das Stakehaus, with high-backed gothic chairs, stuffed corpses in the walls, and generally gloomy decor.
SNL cast member Bowen Yang, who stars in the skit, has been discussing Epic Universe on his podcast Las Culturistas (with co-host Matt Rogers), and was likely inspired by his visit. It’s also worth noting that SNL is produced by NBCUniversal.

About Das Stakehaus

The “real Deathly Diner,” Das Stakehaus in Dark Universe, is a vampire-themed table-service restaurant. Unlike the satirical version, the venue is meant to be darkly humorous, with dishes like “staked” entrées, the bloody Lobotocotta dessert, and “Our Favorite Vegan Familiar’s Stuffed Cabbage” on the menu. The servers are familiars of the local vampire clan, and an old favorite familiar is mummified and fondly displayed.
