Disney California Adventure has a new “World of Color Happiness” nighttime spectacular and Muppets pre-show for the 70th anniversary of Disneyland.

Voting

Before the first “World of Color Happiness!” performance of the evening, Disney California Adventure guests can vote for which “Inside Out” emotion they want spotlighted during the show: Sadness, Anger, Disgust, or Envy. All of these emotions appear during the regular show, but the guest vote determines who has a special moment. Guests vote via the Disneyland app.

Muppets Pre-Show

Here’s the description of the pre-show:

Just before World of Color Happiness! begins, watch as Kermit the Frog, Gonzo and other Muppets step into the spotlight to share safety announcements in a zany song-and-dance number projected across the expressive World of Color fountains.

In addition to Kermit and Gonzo, Miss Piggy, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, Sam Eagle, and Rowlf were among the Muppets featured. They sing safety announcements — with particular emphasis on “Don’t jump in the bay” — under supervision of Joe the Legal Weasel.

The pre-show is just under 5 minutes, with Scooter keeping time while Kermit desperately tries to get the Muppets to properly sing the announcements. Of course, a bit of chaos ensues.

Announcers repeat the safety spiel clearly in English and Spanish after the pre-show. And Joe from Legal appears again to approve their message.

World of Color Happiness!

“World of Color Happiness!” is inspired by Walt Disney’s opening-day dedication of Disneyland: “To all who come to this happy place… welcome!” That quote plays at the beginning of the show, which “explores happy through a kaleidoscope of emotions.” Joy from “Inside Out” hosts the show, including leading a sing-along of “Trashin’ the Camp” from “Tarzan.”

Like all “World of Color” shows, “World of Color Happiness!” is performed with fountains, lighting, lasers, fog, and flame effects on Paradise Bay. Clips from “Turning Red” are set to “Nobody Like U.” Goofy, Max, Powerline, and other “A Goofy Movie” characters appear for an “I 2 I” segment.

Colorful water fountains and lights with a Mickey Mouse face projection create World of Color happiness at night.

There are also clips from “Wish,” “Lady and the Tramp,” “Cinderella,” and “Tangled.” Other featured songs include “This Wish” and “I’ve Got a Dream.” The show includes a rendition of “Rainbow Connection” by Boyz II Men and the original song “Makes Me Wanna Move” by FITZ. Both songs are also featured on the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration album.

At the end of the show, “Happiness” is spelled out with water and lasers, with the “World of Color” wordmark scrawled beneath on the right.

“World of Color Happiness!” officially premieres on May 16 and is performed at 9 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Watch our video of the Muppets pre-show and “World of Color Happiness” below.
