REVIEW: “Aggressive” Disneyland 70th Celebration Cake From the Plaza Inn

Katie Francis

The Plaza Inn has a new 70th Celebration Cake slice available for Disneyland’s anniversary.

The Plaza Inn

The Plaza Inn is located on Main Street, U.S.A., across from Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. During breakfast hours, the restaurant is usually reserved for character dining, but guests can drop in and pick up the cake during lunch and dinner hours (typically from 11 a.m. until park close).

70th Celebration Cake – $7.29

Layers of Pound Cake, Cherry Compote, Confetti Cake, Vanilla Bean White Chocolate Mousse, and Lemon Curd Pastry Cream, covered with a White Chocolate Ganache Buttercream

The cherry compote is extremely powerful. It’s good and fresh, but the cherry overpowers the other notes when you have a bite of all layers at the same time. The pound cake is also strangely delicate, so it has no way of competing with the compote. As one reporter put it, it’s an “aggressive” cake with a lot going on.

However, we have to admit it is certainly a pretty cake that looks great in pictures, especially when you get a shot of the colored layers with the floral decorations on the side. Still, we probably won’t get this again. The parts are better than the whole.
