The Sunset Showcase Theater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is finally receiving a new paint color prior to the debut of Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.
Sunset Showcase Theater Paint

While work for the new Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After show has been taking place inside the Sunset Showcase Theater for a while, visible exterior work began in mid-March. Following the removal of several signs for Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, the only exterior changes have been relatively small. Now, the theater is starting to be repainted with a totally new color scheme.

Even while the space was taken over by the Racing Academy, the Sunset Showcase Theater exterior remained a classic teal color to match the semi-retro aesthetic on this side of the park. It now appears the new Disney Villains show will not be retaining the teal color, and a section of the exterior above the door is in the process of being painted.

The paint is currently only large blocks of color with jagged edges. It is not yet clear whether this strip above the door will be the only repainted section, or whether the rest of the exterior will get a matching color in the future.

The new paint is bright shades of purple, magenta, and hot pink. Construction crew members on lifts were still in the process of adding layers when we arrived.

While the work on the upper half of the building is visible above the construction walls, the walkway to the right of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is still blocked by ropes and rolling planters. The wall on the right side of this walkway was already dark green during our last update, but the continued presence of the platers implies this may not be the finished product.

The gate near the back of this walkway still has the Racing Academy logo with the checkered flag pattern.

One more rogue Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy sign is also still visible on the right of the open walkway. We expect this sign will be removed soon.
Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is scheduled to have its first official performance on May 27, which is the same day as the debut of “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently confirmed the full daily showtimes calendar for both shows, which will each reportedly run around 20 minutes in length. Disney also recently shared a video to their official YouTube channel showing off a first look at the new stage and updated puppets for “The Little Mermaid.”
