A large blue globe with the word "UNIVERSAL" is surrounded by people taking photos at Universal Orlando. The globe is part of an outdoor display under a partly cloudy sky, reminiscent of scenes from your favorite attractions like Spongebob Squarepants.

Universal Parks Trademarks ‘Isle of Curiosity’ Name

Universal Destinations & Experiences filed a new trademark for the name “Isle of Curiosity.”

Isle of Curiosity

The words "ISLE OF CURIOSITY" in bold, black, uppercase serif font—a possible Universal Parks trademark.

Universal filed the trademark on May 1 and it’s currently awaiting assignment. Though it includes a logo mark (above), Universal makes no claim to any particular font style, size, or color.

The trademark covers the following offerings:

Amusement park, theme park, and waterpark services; Entertainment services in the nature of amusement park, theme park, and waterpark attractions; Providing amusement arcade services; Entertainment services in the nature of providing interactive play areas for children and adults; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by costumed characters; Entertainment services in the nature of escape room attractions; Entertainment services, namely, live music concerts and performances, live performances by a dj, live dance performances

However, just because something is listed on a trademark, doesn’t mean the name will be used for that service. And someone trademarking a name or phrase doesn’t necessarily mean it will ever be used.

Isle of Curiosity does lend itself to an area’s name — maybe a land at a new theme park.

Universal Kids Resort concept art

It could be for Universal Kids Resort, which has an island at its center according to concept art. Universal recently filed a trademark for Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster, also likely for the Texas theme park.

Given the trademark was filed in the U.S., the name probably won’t be used at Universal Studios Great Britain. Universal did recently file a trademark for Halloween Horror Nights in the U.K.

Also in the works right now is Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas, but the land-locked warehouse experience probably won’t have any “Isles.”

“Isle of Curiosity” could also be for an experience at a pre-existing park.
