The Walt Disney Company has tapped Angela Jain to be the head of content for Disney+ Europe, Middle East, and Africa, a newly-created role that she will step into this September.

Angela Jain was most recently the director of Unscripted U.K. for ITV Studios. She will head EMEA content strategy for original Disney+ productions — which includes commissioning, production management, and business affairs — as well as for Disney+ originals’ branded acquisitions. She will report to Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy.
“Angela’s appointment to lead original content in EMEA is an essential piece of our ambitious plan to grow our local slate for Disney+,” said Schrier. “Her expertise and experience will help build on our recent success and elevate our storytelling, bringing customers more local stories that complement our incomparable movies and shows from our global studios.”

It is an irresistible opportunity to join Disney, return to commissioning and work alongside Eric Schrier and his talented team. The growth and vision to expand original productions is invigorating, and I look forward to collaborating with the very best creative talent to produce shows of real excellence and ambition for Disney+.

Jain also added, “I’m grateful to ITV after so many wonderful and successful years. I will miss enormously the most incredible and dedicated production teams, colleagues and friends from whom I have learned so much and to whom I would like to say a heartfelt thank you.”
Disney+ plans to increase its local originals output in Europe over the next four years. Successful Disney+ EMEA productions have included “Rivals,” “The Stolen Girl,” “bref.2,” “This Is Not Hollywood,” and “Invisible.”
In other recent Disney+ news, Disney announced their new always-on Disney+ Perks and Hulu Perks programs giving subscribers access to exclusive discounts, free trials, and sweepstakes. Some upcoming Disney+ shows and films are set to include the reimagined “Holes” with a predominantly female cast, a revival of the classic Mickey animated series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+,” and “Disney’s Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical.”
