Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Closing Date
According to the official website for Universal Orlando Resort, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close on August 18, 2025 “to make way for a new experience. More details will be available at a later date.” Details for the “new experience” have not yet been shared, but rumors indicate it will be a new multi-launch roller coaster from Intamin, who also created Jurassic World VelociCoaster at Universal Islands of Adventure.
Universal confirmed the roller coaster’s closure late last year, following long-running rumors that the end for this attraction was imminent. It was previously stated that the closure would be in early September 2025.
Universal filed a permit with the South Florida Water Management District to remove it back in December 2024, which was approved in February 2025. A permit filed in March 2025 for the coaster’s replacement listed a two-story building among the construction work. Just this past week, construction walls went up in CityWalk as demolition looms.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket was designed by Maurer Söhne, opened at Universal Studios Florida in 2009. It features a non-inverted loop and a 90-degree angle climb to its launch, creating an iconic shape that was often used in art featuring the Universal Orlando Resort “skyline,” but has since been removed. Riders are able to choose their ride soundtrack from a list of songs. Previously, there were more than 30 songs to choose from, in addition to a secret list, but those choices were cut down to just five songs in late 2023.
More From Universal Studios Orlando
Universal Studios Orlando released “Farewell Tour 2025” merchandise for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit last month, which includes a T-shirt and a commemorative magnet.
Recently, Universal was sued by a rider who said they got hurt on the coaster and suffered traumatic brain injuries during a 2024 trip.
