Foundation Work Begins at Former Cool Ship Site at Magic Kingdom

Crews have started outlining a new foundation for Cool Ship (or whatever will replace it) in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom.

Crews have placed some small strips of wood in the dirt area that was formerly Cool Ship. Short pieces of rebar stick out of the ground around the new frame. There’s also a wood frame placed in a nearby planter, which is full of packed dirt.

After suddenly closing in May, Cool Ship was completely dismantled and removed from Magic Kingdom. The Walt Disney World website, however, says the outdoor location is “expected to reopen later this year.” We don’t know if it will look like it used to, complete with the Cool Scanner mist spray attached, or if it will have a completely new design.

For reference, above is what Cool Ship and the nearby Cool Scanner looked like before their removal.

Tomorrowland has been undergoing quite a bit of construction lately, with the nearby Astro Orbiter still closed following its complete refurbishment. The exterior structure of Astro Orbiter was finally completed earlier this week, and the rocket-shaped ride vehicles are expected to be returning in the near future for testing.
