All lanes of I-4 just south of Walt Disney World closed on Monday due to a semi-truck fire.
I-4 Fire
Westbound lanes remain closed, and traffic is being diverted off exit 62 to World Drive, WESH 2 reports. Eastbound lanes reopened by 11:10 a.m. but then closed again.
Florida Highway Patrol said lanes will be closed for an extended period of time to clean up the accident. Part of SR 429, which meets I-4 near the accident site, is also closed.
FHP said the crash involved a semi-truck and a 2017 Ford Focus. Footage shows the truck flipped on its side near mile marker 59 outside ChampionsGate in Osceola County. The truck was carrying fertilizer, which is classified as hazardous material. WESH 2’s chopper caught footage of firefighters extinguishing the flames.
“The sequence of events that caused the collision are still under investigation,” said FHP. “However, preliminary evidence shows post-collision, the Semi-Truck struck a guardrail and became fully engulfed in flames.”
It has not been announced if there were any injuries.
