REVIEW: New Crispy Cheddar Melt Dog with Cilantro Garlic-Mayo at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

Blue Ribbon Corn Dog at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn has debuted a new menu item called the Crispy Cheddar Melt Dog, and we stopped by to see how it stacks up against the existing menu.

Crispy Cheddar Melt Corn Dog – $15.50

Alternating cheddar cheese and beef hot dog, dipped in cornmeal batter and rolled in panko bread crumbs, served with a cilantro garlic-mayo and a bag of chips

The new Crispy Cheddar Melt Dog has been added to the regular menu at Blue Ribbon Corn Dog, alongside the existing Giant Mozzarella Stick, Mexican Street Dog, Golden Dragon, and more. It has not yet been added to the digital version of the menu for this location, though we expect it will appear soon.

The corn dog is served in the usual themed container for this location, along with a small plastic dish for the cilantro garlic-mayo and a bag of standard Lay’s potato chips.

As mentioned in the description, the interior alternates between a large bite of hot dog and and equally large bite of cheddar cheese. The “crispy” in the name feels misleading, because we didn’t find this any more crispy than the exterior of a regular corn dog. The panko breadcrumbs were present and did add a little bit of crunch, but we still wouldn’t call it crispy.

On the other hand, we thought the cilantro garlic-mayo was the star of the show. It adds a required zest to the otherwise standard corndog, and we recommend dipping every bite.

Overall, we thought the Crispy Cheddar Melt Dog was just okay. The cheddar cheese felt low-quality, and the large globs of cheddar between the sections of hot dog cause you get a bite of nothing but cheese. If you dislike cheese or are mildly lactose intolerant, definitely don’t buy this expecting only a little cheese flavoring. The hot dog also tasted like your basic, made-at-home product with no special flavor. The combination of the two, plus the added breadcrumbs, makes this a very heavy snack.

If you do want to give this corn dog a try, we recommend sharing it between two or three people as a snack rather than a meal for one person. Then you could divide the sections between hot dog and cheddar, dip every part, and not feel quite as stuffed afterwards.
