FAA Announces Flights to Orlando Are Delayed Due to Severe Weather

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced on July 6 that several flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO) are grounded due to severe weather.

In a recent story from news station WFTV9, the FAA has announced that Orlando International Airport is under a ground stop due to potentially dangerous weather conditions. The FAA update has officially grounded flights to Orlando International following some severe thunderstorms in the area. The ground stop was expected to last from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern, with a medium extension probability.

Regardless if your flight was planned for exactly this time frame, the delay may have a ripple effect on other flights for the rest of the day. Guests are being warned to plan for some extra travel time to Orlando for the rest of the day.

As an added note, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport in Florida was also under a ground stop for the same weather concerns earlier this afternoon. WFTV9 reported that departures from this airport were already experiencing an average delay of 30 minutes, which they say “is expected to increase.”

The report notes that guests should check with their airlines for the most updated information, since the weather delays may continue for the rest of the day.

Weather forecast: 75°F at night, cloudy, 32% rain chance, SSW wind; severe weather may impact flights to Orlando.

According to The Weather Channel, the percent chance of rain in Orlando is only supposed to be 30%. However, the spotted showers have been occasionally severe, so it appears the FAA wants to make sure no flights are put into a dangerous situation.
