While rumors have swirled for years that Disney was creating a streaming series focused on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, major news about the series being in production has only just started to arrive. As already announced, the series is being written and produced by Jon Favreau, who previously directed the live-action remakes of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King,” as well as produced several Marvel and “Star Wars” projects. Favreau is having a busy year, since he is also directing the upcoming film “The Mandalorian & Grogu.

While the upcoming series will obviously include Oswald, it has been described as an animated/live-action hybrid. We reported earlier this week that the series officially cast its three main stars. The main cast of “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” is set to include Ravi Cabot-Conyers (“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” “Encanto”), Mykal-Michelle Harris (“Raven’s Home,” “Mixed-ish”), and Ryder Allen (“The Penguin,” “Palmer”).

According to another update from Variety, the series has now cast Amy Sedaris. While Sedaris has a pretty lengthy resume, she has teamed up with Favreau on multiple occasions. In addition to appearing in Favreau’s film “Chef,” Sedaris voiced a Guinea Fowl in Favreau’s 2019 remake of “The Lion King” and played the character Peli Motto in both “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”

According to Variety, Sedaris is rumored to be playing the mother of Allen’s character, Taylor. Taylor has been described as “a middle school student who is cautious but avoids turning down his friends.” Cabot-Conyers will be Jake, a “hardworking middle school student with a big heart.” Finally, Harris will be playing Jen, an “artistic middle schooler who is always ahead of the game.” Sedaris does not have an official name attached to her character yet.

Variety notes that details about the plot of the series is still being kept secret by Disney so far, “Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact that show will be an animation/live-action hybrid centered on Oswald.”

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is a character originally created by Walt Disney in 1927, but was later controlled by Universal. Disney CEO Bob Iger successfully reacquired the character in 2006, and he has appeared in many Disney projects since then. Oswald has made appearances in the Disney Parks and was one of the main characters in the video game “Epic Mickey.” In 2022, Disney released their first hand-drawn Oswald short in 95 years, which you can watch below:
