As of Monday, July 21, the Fantasyland dark ride attraction is now closed for routine maintenance. Though no reopening date has been confirmed, it is expected to welcome guests once again starting this Saturday, July 26; the attraction has operating hours listed for that date on the Walt Disney World website.

Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid opened in 2012 as part of the New Fantasyland expansion to Magic Kingdom. The original version opened a year earlier at Disney California Adventure as The Little Mermaid — Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, replacing Golden Dreams. The attraction on both coasts is a slow-moving Omnimover dark ride that takes guests through the entire story of the animated version of The Little Mermaid.

Guests can still meet Ariel in her grotto next to the attraction, which is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. most days. Ariel from the live-action film is also meeting in Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Also at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the new stage show, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, which replaced Voyage of the Little Mermaid after it never returned following the 2020 COVID-19 closures. Check out Tom’s honest review of the new show.
