The latest intergalactic creature plush to arrive at Walt Disney World is a Merqaal, as seen in Star Wars Outlaws. We found the new creature, as one would expect, inside the Creature Stall of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
‘Star Wars’ Merqaal Plush – $54.99

A Merqaal is a fluffy creature known for having sharp teeth and claws despite its otherwise cute appearance. As described on the tag that comes with the creature, it is an omnivore with no listed home planet. A Merqaal named Nix is one of the main characters in the game Star Wars Outlaws.

The interior flap of the tag includes some more information about the Merqaal, describing it has fiercely loyal and curious. This plush includes a section for batteries, which are inserted into a pack that is hidden inside the plush’s belly.

The Merqaal, according to Star Wars lore, has a combination of fluffy fur and hard scales. Of course, the scales are replaced with softer fabric with a scaly texture for this plush version. The face has bright green eyes and a mouth full of sharp teeth.

The fur running along the legs and face is a mixture of bright orange and red. The fabric for the scales runs along the back of its head and down its back, all the way to the tip of the tail. The fabric is soft rather than hard faux leather. Our reporter described the texture as similar to the exterior of a peach.

One other defining feature of a Merqaal is that it has three different pairs of ears. The top pair has one more row of gray scales, while the bottom two are both fuzzy.

The belly is mostly a pale shade of orange, while the paw pads are tan.
While it is similar to a plush, this creature can perform several actions once batteries are inserted. As illustrated for us by a Cast Member, the Merqaal will blink its eyes and make sounds. The jaw has a spring that allows it to snap open and shut, as though it is attempting to bite you. While the ears and legs are not battery-operated, they are all opposable, so you can place the Merqaal’s features in different positions.
This is not the only new creature we have recently found in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Just last week, the Creature Stall also debuted a new Baby Bantha plush.
