Two Permits Filed for Beginning of Animation Courtyard Overhaul at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney World filed two construction permits in preparation for the overhaul of Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Animation Courtyard Construction Permits

Permit #20250438843 is for 561 Stage Lane, the location of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios archway, which will be demolished as part of the courtyard’s update. The permit contracts Buena Vista Construction Company for “labor, material, and/or electrical for construction”. Buena Vista Construction Company usually handles smaller projects, so this may just involve preparing the area for the demolition.

The same goes for permit #20250438832, which is for 551 Stage Lane nearby. This is the address of a popcorn cart directly outside of Animation Courtyard. It contracts Buena Vista Construction Company for the same work.

Both permits were filed on July 29 and expire in 1 year.

Animation Courtyard Update

Animation Courtyard will be reimagined into The Walt Disney Studios Lot, inspired by Disney’s real studio spaces in Burbank, California. The Magic of Disney Animation will return, leading to the permanent closure of Star Wars Launch Bay. Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will be replaced by a new Disney Jr. show.

The Magic of Disney Animation was an opening day attraction originally focused on the operating Disney Feature Animation studio, where “Lilo & Stitch” and other films were created. The Florida studio closed in 2004, but the attraction about Disney animation remained open until 2015, when it was replaced by Star Wars Launch Bay. The new version of the experience will open in 2026 as a “place where kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore animated new experiences.”
