Some Walt Disney World PhotoPass photographers have new Sony cameras, which they are testing for potential widespread use at the parks.
New PhotoPass Cameras
Disney was previously partnered with Nikon from 2013 to 2021. After the partnership ended, Nikon signage was removed from the parks, but PhotoPass photographers continued to mostly use Nikon equipment.
Guests might now see some PhotoPass photographers wielding Sony’s A7IV camera. Disney has used Sony equipment for special photo offerings before, but regular photographers in the parks have never carried them.
According to PhotoPass Cast Members, they are currently testing and training with the Sony cameras. If the test is deemed successful, the cameras will be rolled out for practical use at Walt Disney World next week.
Disneyland Resort is also reportedly testing the use of Sony cameras and will make the switch soon.
Disney PhotoPass is the photography service of U.S. Disney Parks, with photographers in green shirts stationed at key locations and with character meet and greets throughout Walt Disney World. Disneyland Resort PhotoPass photographers wear blue-green costumes. Guests can get their photos taken and linked to their Disney account with a ticket, PhotoPass card, or MagicBand. Guests who purchase a Memory Maker package can download all their photos. Guests who don’t purchase a package must purchase photos individually.
