Universal Studios Japan stated HamiKuma would expand to other Universal Destinations & Experiences theme parks starting this fall, but did not share exact locations or other details. Earlier this year, we reported on rumors that HamiKuma would appear at HHN at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, sparked by Universal trademarking the bear’s name in North America.

According to his backstory, HamiKuma was a side show act in a traveling circus, but his fellow performers became jealous of his popularity. They also believed the rumor that he wasn’t a real bear, so they slashed open his belly to expose who or what might be inside. To cover their tracks, they burned down the big top, killing HamiKuma.

In the afterlife, the parasitic demon Death Bringer worked his way into HamiKuma’s belly, and they returned to the surface. Though HamiKuma gained eternal life, his soul was left behind.

HamiKuma Soul was introduced as a separate character, representing the manifestation of the bear’s soul. Last year, Universal Studios Japan introduced HamiKuma Punk as the manifestation of the bear’s inner rage. This year, they will debut HamiKuma Candy, the manifestation of HamiKuma’s greed.

At Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios Japan this year, all four versions of HamiKuma will appear at HamiKuma’s Sweet Scream Party!
