Construction Begins on Fourth Disney Wish Class Ship

Disney Cruise Line shared photos of the milestone steel cutting on Instagram. The maritime tradition marks the start of construction on a ship with the laser cutting of a decorative piece of steel. In this case, the piece is shaped like a Disney Cruise Line ship and features the company’s logo. It was signed by Disney and Meyer Werft representatives who were present, alongside Mickey Mouse, at the ceremony.

A plasma cutter sparks as it slices metal engraved with "Disney Cruise Line" during Wish Class ship construction.

This ship will be the same size and approximate layout as the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. The latter will launch this November and has a Heroes and Villains theme featuring Marvel decorations and a new Hercules stage show.

The fourth Wish class ship does not yet have a name. Wish is Disney Cruise Line’s first ship class to get more than two ships. The upcoming Japanese ship operated by Oriental Land Company (the owners and operators of Tokyo Disney Resort) will also be Wish class. OLC has teased a possible second Japanese ship.

Also launching this winter is the Disney Adventure, which will be the only Global class ship. The Adventure started life as the Global Dream, abandoned partway through construction when owner Genting Hong Kong filed for bankruptcy. Disney Cruise Line purchased the Global Dream, renamed the ship, and finished construction of the ship. It will set sail out of Singapore starting in December.
