Disneyland Paris Lion King Land Permit Approved, Details Revealed

The Disneyland Paris permit for their new Lion King land has been approved, making the permit public and revealing new details of the land.

An artistic rendering of a theme park, featuring Lion King Land with a central lake and fountain, surrounded by various themed buildings and attractions, all set against a majestic mountainous backdrop.

The Lion King land will be in Disney Adventure World, the park currently known as Walt Disney Studios Park. It will be renamed with the opening of a major expansion, including World of Frozen, next year. The Lion King land will be located next to World of Frozen, but will open later.

DLP Works on X shared details of the permit, which is named “Project SUN” and was filed on April 14. It was approved by authorities on August 14.

The permit covers a Lion King covered attraction, a retail store inside the attraction building, a food kiosk with covered seating, guest restrooms, and an outdoor character meet and greet space. The full project area is 30,368.64 square meters (almost 327,000 square feet).

Lion King Ride

In a vibrant jungle setting reminiscent of The Lion King attraction, a lion cub, meerkat, and warthog perch playfully on a fallen log amidst fluttering butterflies. Two onlookers admire the scene from the dense foliage's edge—an enchanting glimpse into Disneyland Paris's concept art.

The attraction will be a water flume ride similar to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The description indicates it will be two levels and have exterior openings. The show building (number 701 on the diagram above) will be within an artificial mountain, as seen in concept art. Its peak elevation will be 37 meters (121 feet) above ground. The mountain will be painted beige with artificial foliage to represent Pride Rock.

Further adding to the theming, the south and southeast facades will have vertical anthracite bands and green cladding. The entrance canopies will be made of resin imitating thatch with wood paneling underneath and timber supports.

The show building will be divided into four areas: exterior queue with thatched canopies, attraction, retail store, and technical rooms for Cast Members. In the attraction area is a mezzanine indoor queue, loading and unloading zones, and maintenance rooms.

The retail store will be on the west side of the building, accessible from the ride’s exit and from outside.

Landscaping

Disney will plant more than 297 trees, ranging in height from 1.5 meters to 10 meters (3 to 32 feet). Sidewalks will be made of stamped concrete designed to evoke the savannah. Planters will line the paths for a total green space of 5,396 square meters (58,000 square feet). There will be sculpted rock motifs with planted slopes. Berms and screening will reduce visual and sound impact.

Utilities and Infrastructure

Electricity will be supplied from existing park loops, so no additional power is needed. There will be an extension of the potable water network and the creation of a basin for attraction water. There will be stormwater collection via infiltration drains below the show building.

A new backstage area will include more Cast Member parking and entrances, including access for emergency and service vehicles.

The permit notes that the surplus capacity created by the new land will still be maintained by existing guest parking lots.
