Eternals Star Says Marvel Contract Included a Theme Park Attraction

Eternals Star Kumail Nanjiani shared the news that he signed on to be part of a future theme park attraction as part of his deal with Marvel Studios.

Eternals follows a group of ancient, powerful beings called the Eternals, who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years. They reunite after the return of the Deviants and the emergence of a cosmic event called the Emergence, which threatens Earth’s existence.

Fans and critics alike gave Eternals poor reviews, and it is still one of Marvel’s worst-performing films. Back in 2022, Actor Patton Oswalt suggested Eternals 2 was on the slate with director Chloe Zhao from the first film.

Despite talk surrounding more Eternals projects, nothing has come to fruition in terms of movies, Disney+ series, or other possible storylines.

Theme Park Attraction?

Actor Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo, recently talked about his reaction to Eternals release on an episode of Working It Out. He also shared that he originally signed on for six movies, a video game, and a theme park ride.

“This is going to be my job for the next ten years…I’ll be doing Marvel movies every year, in between I’ll be doing my own things, whatever I want to do. And then none of that happened.”

Due to the poor reception, it’s clear that Marvel steered clear of anymore Eternals projects. That likely includes the theme park attraction Nanjiani referenced. Disney never announced an Eternals attraction for any of its theme parks.

He also talked earlier this year about how the film reviews affected him. “It was really, really hard and that’s when I was like ‘This is unfair to me. It’s unfair to [my wife] Emily. I can’t approach my work this way anymore’…so very intentionally I did start counseling.”

It’s clear Marvel had huge plans for Eternals. What is unclear is if any future projects will move forward.
