Birdcage Bar Construction Ramps Up with First Vertical Framework Installed at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

The first vertical framework for the birdcage bar has gone up in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, while many other areas are still blocked by construction walls.

Construction continues in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, with several areas still blocked by walls. The left half of the lobby, as seen when arriving from the main entrance, is still being transformed as the new birdcage bar is added to the space.

A steel framework is now visible between the two columns at the back of the bar’s space. The birdcage-inspired bar will replace the giant birdcage that used to sit in the lobby. A concrete foundation was poured for the bar a few weeks ago.

The framework includes a horizontal piece located near the edge of the ceiling. A second horizontal element is located a couple feet off the ground. Pipes run from inside one of the columns into the nearby floor.

We also spotted a new light sconce in the bar’s construction zone. Not yet installed, the golden fixture sat on a box. We noticed other boxes marked glass, possibly holding more lights or other themed elements.

Other Lobby Construction

This wall next to the elevators on the second floor was previously blocked off. The space is back open, revealing an off-white wall instead of the old pink striped wallpaper.

The wallpaper remains in place on the opposite side of the elevator bay. The railings between the walls and nearby columns also still have tarps on them, implying more work may be taking place in the area soon.

On the other side of the second floor, white curtains still block the main staircase and PhotoPass area. On the first floor, there are also some white curtains added outside Curiouser Clothiers. The construction walls on the right of the first floor are wrapped around the check-in area, which has been under construction since the project began.

Behind the curtains, we saw a crew member working on the wall where the PhotoPass backdrop used to be. Previously during construction, we could see just a steel framework here. This framework appears to now be covered in paneling.

The hallway leading to Citricos and Victoria & Albert’s was closed on Wednesday morning. Construction work in this area is taking place early during the day, before the restaurants open for dinner.

Convention Center Roof

Last week, we saw work beginning on the roof of the resort’s convention center. More shingles have been removed since then, so crew members can refurbish the sheathing underneath. We saw crew members in a lift working on one of the building’s towers.
