The Monsters After Dark overlay of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure has quietly opened earlier than it was originally scheduled.

Monsters After Dark is a special Halloween-seasonal overlay of the usual Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction. Here is Disney’s description of the overlay:
Your objective? Team up with Rocket to return to the fortress, distract the monsters and escape with his buddy in tow—but proceed with caution. With the Guardians of the Galaxy involved, the plan is bound to run into a few unexpected ups and downs!

Amid the chaos of the Guardians of the Galaxy’s rescue attempt, Groot got left behind. Even worse, the Collector’s Fortress is now mired in a total state of emergency—and overrun with menacing beasts.
Monsters After Dark is officially listed on the Disneyland Resort website as returning from August 17 to October 31, to coincide with the first date for Oogie Boogie Bash in 2025.
Overlay Soft Open
However, in a recent update to the Disneyland Resort app, it appears the Monsters After Dark overlay of the attraction has debuted early. As of the evening of August 16, the app is no longer showing wait times for the usual Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction and is only listing standby times for Monsters After Dark.
Likewise, the page dedicated specifically to the overlay version of the ride on the Disney California Adventure website now has operating times listed starting on August 16. The times are listed from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is because the attraction usually operates with its normal version in the morning, and swaps to the overlay in the afternoon. Additional times are scheduled for the rest of the month and through the end of September (which is the current end of the park calendar visible online).
The calendar does also include the time variations for the Monsters After Dark overlay based on Oogie Boogie Bash. On August 17, for example, Monsters After Dark will operate from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., but the times from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. will only be available to event guests. Meanwhile, the webpage for the standard attraction has now been updated to say it closes at 2 p.m.
