Haunted Mansion, Star Wars Actor Terence Stamp Has Passed Away

Actor Terence Stamp, known among Disney fans for his roles in The Haunted Mansion and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, has passed away at the age of 87.

According to Deadline, Stamp passed away on Sunday morning, August 17. The family asks for privacy during this time, stating:

He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come.

Stamp was born on  July 22, 1938 in Stepney, London. He attended Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art before beginning his on-stage and on-screen career. He earned a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year – Actor and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his 1962 debut in Billy Budd.

In addition to his role of Ramsley in The Haunted Mansion (2003), Stamp was Chancellor Finis Valorum in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). Other credits include playing General Zod in Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), Madding Crowd (1967), Wall Street (1987), Young Guns (1988), The Real McCoy (1993), Valkyrie (2008) and Last Night in Soho (2021).

Stamp also earned nominations for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for his performance as trans woman Bernadette Bassenger in Stephan Elliott’s The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994).
