After crossing the billion-dollar mark at the box office this summer, the live-action Lilo & Stitch will soon make its streaming debut on Disney+.
Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Coming to Disney+
According to Deadline, the film will premiere on the streaming service on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The streaming date marks its “massive” 124-day theatrical window from when the film opened in theaters on May 23.
The film is the highest-grossing MPA (Motion Pictures Association) title of 2025 so far with $1.025 billion, and is the second-highest-grossing movie in the U.S. for this year with $421.2 million. Other recent billion-dollar successes from Disney include Moana 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Inside Out 2.
The live-action film is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On), with a screenplay written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes. A sequel is already in development, with the original animated film co-director and voice of Stitch, Chris Sanders, tapped to write.

Since its release, the reimagined film has seen some controversy and criticism due to major changes from the original animated feature — like removing Gantu to make Jumba an irredeemable villain, no longer having Pleakley dress in drag, and changing Nani’s storyline. Fleischer Camp even saw headlines for stating that “People do get left behind” when addressing criticism over the film’s ending.
