The newest construction permit has been filed for the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which is set to become Disney Imagineering offices at Walt Disney World.

The permit, filed on August 26, lists “general construction” as the main project and expires in one year. The address is 201 S Studio Drive, which is the former site of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

The permit is labeled “Project H” and assigned to Balfour Beatty Construction. This is a large contractor that Disney has partnered with multiple times in the past, often for major projects.

A previous permit was filed for “general construction” on the property back in January of 2024, with a different contractor.

Earlier this year, we learned the space would become offices for Disney Imagineering. It will serve as the hub for upcoming expansion projects. There are many projects underway at Walt Disney World, like Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Piston Peak at Magic Kingdom, and Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The immersive cruise-style experience opened on March 1, 2022, and was met with some mixed reviews. Our honest review mentioned the live entertainment was more magical than any attraction could be and that the overall experience changed the industry for the better. However, the Starcruiser was also definitely overpriced, and it suffered with low booking rates in later months.

The project ultimately closed on September 30, 2023, just one and a half years after opening. Earlier this summer, the road sign was finally covered.

Previously, Josh D’Amaro said that “something will happen” with the Galactic Starcruiser. CEO Bob Iger reportedly rejected ideas to retheme the space.
