Vines, Flowers, and Maggots Arrive at Halloween Horror Nights 34 Scare Zones

The Halloween Horror Nights 34 scare zones throughout Universal Studios Florida have new props and set dressing.

The Origins of Horror (Minion Land)

A crowd walks through a large stone archway at an outdoor theme park under a partly cloudy sky.

The entrance trusses now have some themed elements. There are a pair of tall fake stone columns that appear to be the broken supports of an old archway. These likely represent the entrance to the Conservatory, wherein this year’s event takes place.

Metal scaffolding and stone-like set pieces stand among palm trees on a city street under a cloudy sky.

Around the bases of the trusses are blue-gray panels also resembling stone.

Each of these structures in the scare zone now has a fog machine next to it, for a total of three fog machines.

The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane (Central Park)

Over at the end of Crooked Lane, more foliage has been added to the cat house structure, making it appear more and more overgrown.

The structure has three “boo holes” on the back, where Scareactors can hide to jump out and scare guests. They can enter through these curtains in order to access areas to startle guests inside the tunnel.

The Cat Lady’s house also has more foliage, including vines creeping up the porch and walls. The house received several props a few days ago.

Weathered wooden house with latticed windows and a vine growing up the porch post; trees and grass in the background.

The vines wrap around the supports of the porch’s awning. They wrap around the door and windows.

A rustic blue wooden building with a small arched window, climbing vines, and tall plants against a bright sky.

The vines cover about half of the house’s side wall. There are also large potted ferns adding to the ambiance.

A tree with brown, dry leaves stands in a wooden planter between green trees on a sunny day.

Nearby is an autumnal tree in a wooden planter. It also has vines growing over it and stands out against the area’s usual green trees.

Food Booths (Animal Actors on Location)

Theming has arrived for the food booths that will be next to Animal Actors on Location. There are fake stone walls and columns with thick vines growing over them.

Though different booths, scare zones, and houses have different themes, everything is set inside the conservatory. Elements like the stone walls and overgrown plants hint at this.

Empty menu boards are on the columns. Hopefully, we’ll get full menus for Halloween Horror Nights soon.

Wooden fencing runs along the back of the booths, which currently have no food equipment or registers.

Masquerade: Dance with Death (Hollywood)

The stage outside Schwab’s has some small updates. The mysterious tarp-covered element hasn’t changed, but there’s now an AAT (actor-activated trigger) beneath it.

A burnt electronic device with a cord lies on a black and white tiled floor under a piece of furniture.

This is a pedal that the Scareactor can sneakily hit, activating an effect.

We also noted these large maggot-like props attached to one of the table legs.

The stage outside The Darkroom now has a tarp over the fountain of glasses we’ve seen in previous updates. We would guess this means the water now has red coloring, making it look like blood. There’s also another mysterious tarp-covered object. It sure looks like a body to us.

One more mysteriously body-shaped tarp is on the railing of this stage. All of the stages are now covered in vines and other foliage.

Sting Alley Food Booth

Brick alleyway with vintage signs, including “Manhattan Motor Repair” and “Stiegler Bros. Van & Storage,” under blue sky.

Sting Alley, part of the park’s New York area, has a new tent.

A white tent is set up in an alleyway between brick buildings on a sunny day.

There’s no theming on the tent, but this is usually a food booth.

Mutations: Toxic Twenties (New York)

This stage in the Mutations: Toxic Twenties scare zone has a new prop: a red BzzzCon barrel. In the scare zone’s story, a car crash causes BzzzCon toxic materials to spill into the city, creating mutated zombies. Similar barrels are on the truck where the toxic leak originates.

Red lights were installed atop the 1920s-style police car.

A green florist stand with colorful flowers and vines is displayed on a city sidewalk in front of a pink building.

The Florist’s stand now has flowers. There are bundles in the boxes across the front of the booth, vases on shelves, and vines over the trellises.

These vines are much prettier than those throughout the other scare zones, with pink and purple flowers.

A wooden flower box overflows with colorful, vibrant artificial flowers on a sunny street.

The box, still missing flowers, is the one with a hole apparently burned through it by an acidic substance.

A vintage police car and trailer with crates are blocked off on a city street with people walking nearby.

Over at the crash site, there are a few minor changes.

The car’s windows are now blocked out, suggesting something is being added inside. There is also electrical equipment connected to the vehicles, indicating they will make sounds and/or light up.

HHN Tribute Store

People sit on a bench outside the Palace Theater with a classic marquee and city buildings in the background.

The Tribute Store will be in a new location this year, taking over the Palace Theater Arcade and Sahara Traders. There haven’t been any outward changes to the arcade in the past few days — signage was already removed, and a barrier blocks the alley to the right.

Next door, the windows of Sahara Traders are now blocked by green curtains.
