The Walt Disney Birthplace announced a new plan to transform Walt and Roy Disney’s childhood home into an “immersive, sensory experience” through a $250,000 fundraising campaign.
The project seeks to utilize projection mapping to create an experience “unlike anything else in historic preservation.”
Through state-of-the-art short throw projections and custom animation, each room will transport guests back to the years 1893 to 1906. You’ll hear the sounds of a bustling neighborhood. See images of the famous Columbian World Expo. Smell the scent of fresh-baked apple pie wafting from the kitchen. Listen to Elias Disney’s violin as it fills the parlor. The heartbeat of this family home, alive with possibility, will surround you.
To kick off the $250,000 goal, the non-profit Walt Disney Birthplace organization has initiated a “Weekend Challenge” to raise $50,000 by August 24th. The organization claims this goal will fund the first immersive room.
The home, located in Chicago, Illinois, is currently offering 40-minute tours through the home once per month. The Walt Disney Birthplace official website has information on the home, tour ticket sales, and an online auction of Disney memorabilia to raise money for the project.
Donations to the goal or the organization can be made here.
