A Pirate’s Life for Us: We Reviewed Everything at The Beak and Barrel

Currently the hottest dining reservation at Walt Disney World, The Beak and Barrel — inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean — is now open in Magic Kingdom. We’ve had a chance to try every dish and beverage, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and are now ready to give you our honest review!

Location

A weathered Beak and Barrel sign sits in a tropical garden, awaiting your review beneath a glowing lantern.

The Beak and Barrel is located in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom, to the right of the entrance to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

A rustic wooden sign reading "The Beak and Barrel" hangs indoors—perfect for your next Beak and Barrel review.

There is a map-shaped sign sitting in a planter near the walkway, and a second sign hanging from the ceiling closer to the entrance.

Interior

The Beak and Barrel, housed inside the former location of The Pirates League, has multiple rooms, including The Mess, Captain’s Quarters, and the Mapmaker’s Room. Many of the rooms have fun hidden details, Pirates of the Caribbean references, and even some special effects. Check it all out in our full tour.

From the Galley

Island Provisions – $16

Plantain Chips, Blue Corn Tortillas, and Toasted Flatbread served with Mango Chutney, Garlic Chimichurri, Spiced Guava, and Zesty Culantro Cream Dips

Review: Enjoy a Beak and Barrel platter with chips, pita, dips, salsa, and sauces on a wooden table with drinks.

When brought to us, Cast Members sang a sea shanty themed to the dish. The “culantro” dip has a very strong and intense flavor. Technically, culantro is a related, but not identical herb to cilantro. If you are not a cilantro fan, you may not like that dip.

Beak and Barrel Review: Three flavorful dips—barbecue, mango salsa, green dip—with flatbread on a wooden board.

However, there are two other solid dips, so there is an option for everyone. The chips, pita, and plantain are all equally good. This is an overall crowd-pleaser dish, and it would be good for kids as well.

Cook’s Corn Griddle Cakes with Chipotle-brased Chicken – $14

Warm Corn Cakes stuffed with Melted Cheese, Lime Sour Cream, Chili Peppers, and Cotija

A Beak and Barrel pambazo sandwich with cheese and greens, served in a brown dish with a lemon wedge on the side.

This is a pretty big portion for the price point. The melted cheese is delicious, the spice is hearty, and the Caribbean-style sweet and spicy flavor works well.

A cheesy taco from Beak and Barrel sits in a bowl, with melted cheese dripping—worth a review!

We thought this would be boring, but it surprised us with how complex and tasty the flavors are once you take a bite. We would definitely order this again, and it could easily stand as a meal.

Note: This dish is also available with poblano peppers instead of chipotle-brased chicken. It is available for $12 and contains all the same ingredients, aside from the chicken.

Kraken’s Catch – $18

Octopus Tentacles marinated in Lemon and Lime Juice with Olives, Bell Peppers, Avocado, and Piquillo Pepper-Almond Foam

We were very apprehensive about this one, but it was better than we expected. Lovers of cold seafood or ceviche-type dishes will really enjoy this. For what it is, the flavor is good and has a notable spice aftertaste. We do think it is a little overpriced for the size.

Non-Alcoholic Specialty Beverages

Cursed Treasure – $7.75

An indulgent blend of Coconut Milk and Cookie Crumbs topped with Vanilla Foam and Pirate’s Gold

A bronze mug with an ornate chocolate garnish sits on a napkin at Beak and Barrel for our review.

Although slightly chunky in texture, we did think this was very good. It has a refreshing coconut flavor, and it almost reminded us of a cookies and cream milkshake.

The Pirate’s Gold on top was terrible. We don’t suggest eating that. Overall, this beverage is a decent non-alcoholic option.

Treasure Trove – $13.75

A mysterious Ube, Lemon, and Coconut Concoction served with a Vanilla Cake Plank, Chocolate Cannonball, and Golden Caramel Popcorn

The drink reminded us of a Kool-Aid drink, although not overly sweet. The Vanilla Cake Plank reminded us of a Little Debbie Zebra Cake, and we think kids would love it. The Chocolate Cannonball was delicious. Overall, the entire presentation was fun, and we liked it a lot.

Signature Cocktails

Siren’s Whisper – $20

Pot & Column Still White Rum Blend, Bols Blue Curaçao Liqueur, Combier Crème de Pêche de Vigne Liqueur, Lime, and Cinnamon

Although this drink looks a little like Windex, it is lovely. We really enjoyed how the flavors combined to create a slightly spicy flavor on the back end. The only thing we would change would be to serve it over rocks, but that is probably just a personal preference.

Rating out of 7: 7

Port of Call – $19

London Dry Gin, Ruby Port, Lemon Juice, and Spiced Cranberry

We thought this drink would remind us of a Moscow Mule due to the copper cup, but we were pleasantly surprised. The cranberry flavor was delicious and mixed well with the gin.

Lit Fuse – $18.50

Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej Mezcal, Tempus Fugit Crème de Banane Liqueur, Coconut Water, Lime Juice, and Hella Cocktail Co. Smoked Chili Bitters

We appreciated the half-rim because it helps to avoid messiness when drinking, and it gives you the chance to try the beverage by itself. The mezcal flavor is very strong and hits your tongue immediately. It is cool and refreshing, but we would consider this a slow sipper (not ideal when in a bar with a time limit).

Barrels Ablaze – $19

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Bourbon, Honey, Lemon, and Chile

This is a very nice drink with a great level of spice and burn. It may not be overly ambitious or themed, but if you want a solid bourbon beverage, we had no complaints.

Rating out of 7: 7

Hibiscus Rum Punch Royale – $19

Don Q Reserva 7 Puerto Rican Rum, Hibiscus, Demerara, and Lime topped with Prosecco

There is likely an audience for this drink, but we did not love it. Nothing really stood out to us. It was just an average drink we could find anywhere.

Rating out of 7: 4

Salty Seas mARRRgarita – $20

Lalo Blanco Tequila, Cointreau Liqueur, Ube, and Lime

This has a nice earthy flavor from the Ube, but it is not overpowering. This was good, and we think that Ube-lovers in particular will love this drink. That being said, there are stronger options on the menu, and anyone who does not love Ube will be less impressed.

Rating out of 7: 4

Plunderer’s Punch – $46

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Blackberry, Lime, and Vanilla served in a Souvenir Pirate Skull Mug

The Plunderer’s Punch tastes slightly medicinal, but it reminds us of a Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, tiki-style drink. It is really smooth, and no flavor overpowers the others.
