Tuesday, September 23 marked the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live following its nearly one-week suspension after the host made remarks about Charlie Kirk.

According to Nielsen data, Jimmy Kimmel Live drew in 6.26 million viewers, which is more than three times the typical viewership for the show. This number does not include viewers who streamed or will stream the show later. So, all in all, the total number will be even higher.

And, it’s also important to note that Nextstar and Sinclair are still not showing Jimmy Kimmel Live, making it unavailable in about 23% of U.S. households.

Among the 18-49 age group, the episode earned a 0.87 rating. This is the highest rating for a regularly scheduled episode in more than 10 years.

Kimmel’s opening monologue, which lasted 28 minutes, racked in more than 26 million views across YouTube and other social platforms. He stated, “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.” He also joked that, ″[Trump] tried his best to cancel me. Instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show. Backfired bigly.”
