Creator Tony Gilroy Talks Star Wars Andor Spin-Off Idea

In an episode of the House of R podcast, Tony Gilroy talked about what Andor characters he will miss and the potential of a spin-off.

Andor Spin-Off Idea

Two women face each other in a dim, futuristic hallway, dressed in dark formals—a scene reminiscent of Andor's style.

Hosts Mallory Rubin and Joanna Robinson told Gilroy about one spin-off idea their listeners had suggested. It would follow rebels Kleya and Vel as “Nazi hunters” tracking down former Imperials after the Empire falls. Ex-Imperial Dedra Meero would assist them in a “Hannibel Lector-esque” position, using the situation to take revenge on her Imperial enemies.

“You don’t need me!” said Gilroy as the hosts expanded on the idea. He added, “It’s a hip idea. I’m sure Kathy [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] will hear about that one. That’s a good one.”

Later in the podcast, the hosts talked about B2EMO’s future and Gilroy joked, “When Vel and Kleya show up for information, there’s a tea party!”

In a more serious answer, Gilroy indicated he’s done with Star Wars for now, having spent most of the past decade working on Rogue One and Andor.

“It’s really been 10 years,” he said, “I haven’t done much else in there. I’d really like to direct again. I got a movie I’m trying to put together. I mean, 26 hours of Star Wars, you know, that’s a lot.”

Gilroy’s directing credits include Michael Clayton, Duplicity, and The Bourne Legacy.

In a scene straight out of a timeless classic, a woman in a yellow dress catches your eye as she looks back over her shoulder in the bustling, elegant ballroom. This captivating moment could be the highlight of any day's daily recap—a fleeting glimpse of grace amidst swirling dances.

Rubin and Robinson asked Gilroy, “Which characters will you have the hardest time not writing for again?”

He mentioned Major Partagaz, portrayed by Anton Lesser, but his final answer was Eedy Karn portrayed by Kathryn Hunter. “Every time there was an Eedy scene, it was like, ‘I’m taking that, I’m taking that, I’m taking that,'” he said.
