Walkways Installed At Former Cool Ship Location at Magic Kingdom

Concrete pathways and site shape are starting to fill out the space around the former Cool Ship in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom.

The last time we reported on the construction of the former Cool Ship site in Magic Kingdom was in early August, and several changes have occurred since then. For instance, just in the last few days, concrete walking platforms have been installed around the center circle.

Side-by-side photos show construction progress on a circular concrete pad near walkways and Cool Ship in Magic Kingdom.

Additionally, the wooden framing, which was present in a unique shape at the beginning of August, has now been poured. As shown in the image above, the shape is now set into a concrete indentation on the platform. What this shape will mean for the new Cool Ship location, we still don’t know.

The pipes seen around the wooden framing have been almost completely covered up by concrete. As seen on the left side of the above photo, some of the other pipes have disappeared from view since the concrete was installed.

Cool Ship Before

Two retro-futuristic kiosks, "Cool Scanner" and "Cool Ship," line the walkways of a vibrant Magic Kingdom theme park.

Before Cool Ship and its neighboring Cool Scanner suddenly closed without notice in late May, it looked like the photo above. A few days later, the refreshment stand had been completely dismantled, and construction walls were going up.

The Walt Disney World website states that the quick service location is closed for refurbishment and is expected to reopen later this year. Based on the current site outline, it’s unlikely that the area will resemble its former appearance. However, the website also still refers to the spot as Cool Ship.

What do you think? Do you think Cool Ship will keep its old name even with a new look? Let us know in the comments!
